Dear Distinguished Delegates,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 3rd ODeLAN International Conference taking place in Abuja, the vibrant capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The National Open University of Nigeria, the first and largest single-mode open university in West Africa, is honoured to be hosting this event in partnership with the Open, Distance, and eLearning Association of Nigeria (ODeLAN).

The conference theme, “Adaptive Pedagogies for the Future of Education: Connecting Learners, Technologies and Communities,” could not be more relevant. Against this background, the focus on adaptive pedagogies that leverage appropriate and emerging technologies for fostering inclusive, sustainable educational practices is crucial. By interconnecting learners and impacting communities, we can create a holistic educational ecosystem that personalises learning experiences, empowers learners with 21st-century skills, and ensure no learner is left behind.

The event promises to be a critical platform for educators, researchers, policymakers, and industry innovators to exchange ideas and foster conversations that will shape the future of education.

I look forward to welcoming you to Abuja, Nigeria, to the National Open University of Nigeria, and to the conference as we collectively chart the course for a future where education is adapted to meet the needs of every learner in every community.

Prof Francis Egbokhare

President
Open Distance and e Learning Association of Nigeria

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The Open Distance and eLearning Association of Nigeria (ODeLAN) has made significant strides since its inception in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. The association has grown in membership and enthusiasm, with successful conferences held at Babcock University in 2023 and Ahmadu Bello University in 2024. In 2025, the conference will be hosted by the National Open University of Nigeria in Abuja, marking a major step as membership expands to include teachers and practitioners from various educational institutions at tertiary and basic levels including Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, officials from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission.

The theme of the upcoming conference, “Adaptive Pedagogies for the Future of Education: Connecting Learners, Technologies, and Communities” addresses the need to overcome inherited traditions and inefficiencies in distance learning.

It aims to explore sustainable ODL models for Africa’s challenging economic environment, focusing on minimising technology burdens and addressing issues such as paywalls, legacy thinking, and fossilised policies.

The conference will feature discussions on integrating national assets, adapting pedagogies, and effectively dealing with the marginal attention given to pedagogy in ODL. For the first time, an eLearning exhibition will be included. The National Open University of Nigeria and its Vice Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, have provided consistent support to ODeLAN. Colleagues from Africa and worldwide are invited to Abuja for a unique and exciting experience in Nigeria’s capital.
